Let colour be your calm, and nature your guide
Meet Emma
Emma is a UK-based artist whose work explores land- and seascapes as emotional spaces. Working primarily with acrylic paint, she creates contemporary scenes that sit between abstraction and realism, using flowing bands of colour to suggest the contours, undulations and rhythm of the natural world. This is layered with small details of hyper-realistic people, animals or objects that highlight how small we are within its beauty.
Emma grew up close to the Lake District, where time spent in the mountains fostered a deep connection to the natural world. Hiking the fells and looking out across the lakes left a lasting impression that continues to influence her work today.
Sport was also an important part of Emma’s life growing up, particularly running, which offered a way to be outdoors while entering a state of complete focus. When arthritis later brought this to an unexpected end, painting became a way to reconnect with that same sense of presence and immersion.
Through a lot of patience and experimentation she developed a painting technique that allows clean, harmonious lines of colour to flow seamlessly across the surface. Each piece is created intuitively, using hand-mixed colours, creating compositions that feel both structured and fluid.
Now based in Wales, Emma continues to draw inspiration from the landscapes around her. Painting has become a grounding process for her - slow, calming and intentional - and this is the feeling she hopes to pass on to the viewer. Her work invites viewers to pause, slow down, and reconnect with the natural world.
